Autonomous standing: Martin on panel on parked cars and pedestrian perception

On 18 September 2026, Martin joined the panel discussion accompanying Autonomes Stehen, an art installation in Berlin-Schöneberg that lets parked cars from the 1980s and today occupy a residential street for the length of the project. In a conversation moderated by Nele Peschel and Luca Raschke, he brought a vision scientist’s perspective to a question local residents keep raising: do parked cars, especially larger and more heavily tinted ones, genuinely reduce what pedestrians and drivers can see of each other.

The evening, held two days before the Berlin state elections, closed with a panel discussion among candidates from four parties on the politics of street parking.
